"And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: and He shall reign over the House of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end" - Luke 1:30-33

Part 6

In the early part of his public ministry, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus advised his mother, that he could not abide by her request to reveal himself because, "My time is not come." (John 2:4)

Here, it would be good to stop and ask ourselves what ‘timetable is he referring to?

We also have the very revealing statement made by Jesus and recorded by Mark, " Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
(Mark 1:14,15)

Again, we need to ask, ‘what does he mean by saying "the time is fulfilled?"

This ‘fullness of time’ was mandated by Daniel’s marvelous prophecy, which is known to us today as the ‘Seventy Weeks’.

The messiah could not appear on the scene until 483 years had elapsed from Artaxerxes decree. This, Jesus fulfilled. The seventieth week had arrived. Eventually, we see Jesus exclaiming, ‘It is finished’.

Considering how careful Jesus was, in adhering to it’s timeline, you may find it in your heart to forgive me for getting riled up by the false teachers in our midst who insist on inserting ‘gaps’ into Daniel’s prophecy.

In this article, we will examine some of the aspects of that prophecy, which predicted the redemptive work of the Savior, the ‘abomination’ that brought about the ‘desolation of the Temple’ and the destruction of Jerusalem and the triumph of his Kingdom.

In fact, that prophecy was so particular, so exact in its details that a lot of scholars want to insist that it was written after the facts. Let’s go back and begin with the ‘good news’ brought to those in Jesus day and its implications for us today, (which will bring us to the ‘fullness of the Gentiles’).

When it says that the "Poor have the gospel preached to them", we have to ask ourselves, what was the ‘good news’ or ‘gospel’ which was preached to the poor?

In an age when the rich, have become greedier, have monopolized houses and lands and the means of industry.

The rich in Christ’s day had bought up farms and industry and there were great crowds of people reduced to poverty, just like what is happening today, in Latin America and parts of the ‘third world’.

The believers in Israel, who had possessions, sold them and gave the proceeds to the Deacons to be divided among the people and they resorted to the ‘common meal.

Farms and lands were deeded over to the church and the proceeds divided up for the poor.

When Ananias and Saphari held back part of the proceeds they were sinning against the Holy Spirit, because in the ‘new earth’, God dwells in his people, not in a man-made temple, as the Book of Revelation shows.

I believe the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution refers to this as the ‘General Welfare’.

What struck fear into the hearts of the Romans, was that the Christians recognized a different King than Caesar and established a system of Welfare, in direct competition with man’s government, just as is happening again, right now.

Today, our ‘poor’ include the workers exploited by the capitalist system; the under-employed, those pushed aside by the production process -- a reserve army always at hand to take the place of the employed;

they used to be limited to the laborers of the countryside, and migrant workers with only seasonal work, but not so, any more.

More and more, I see people here in the USA who had good paying jobs only five years or so ago, whose unemployment benefits have run out. They have lost their homes and often as not their cars.

Page 2.

Christians are forbidden to go to Courts of the world with one another. We should resort to the judgement of the ‘least among you’ to decide an issue.

We are to obey the authorities of this world so long as they are guided by godly principles but not otherwise. When bureaucrats set up anti-christ rules and regulations which militate against God’s order, we are bound to ignore them and seek redress.

The Greek word for "kingdom" is basileia, which means "properly, royalty, i.e. (abstractly) rule, or (concretely) a realm (literally or figuratively)." -Strong

‘Basileia’ is primarily an abstract noun, denoting sovereignty, royal power, dominion, e.g.,

Rev. 17:18, translated "(which) reigneth," lit., 'hath a kingdom' (R.V. marg.); then, by metonymy, a concrete noun, denoting the territory or people over whom a king rules, e.g., Matt. 4:8; Mark 3:24. It is used especially of the Kingdom of God and of Christ.- Vine

"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed:

and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold;

the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure."
- Daniel 2:44-45

The ‘Dispensationalists’ wish to limit the fulfillment of this prophecy to a literal 1,000 year reign of Christ. Why limit Christ’s kingdom, which is to ‘stand forever’??

Yes, there are prophecies about Apostasy and a departure from the truth as taught by Jesus and his Apostles, in the ‘later days’ but we have guarantees found here, that this Kingdom will not be given to another people.

This passage refutes the defeatist fatalism dished up by Scofield/Darby.

In fact, we are assured that before Christ delivers back the Kingdom to his Father, that all that causes offense will be excised from it.

"As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth"
- Matt. 13: 40-42

Daniel's vision provided his people with a divine timetable of consecutive years for redemption accomplished, not a game of stop the clock for gap filling speculation! This great week of salvation was wrought after the 69th "week" of years, in the middle of the 70th week, by virtue of Christ's death and resurrection.

Daniel 9 is wonderful news... We must rejoice in it!

Clement of Alexandria (160 A.D.), in his teaching on Matthew 24:15, The Abomination of Desolation states: "We have still to add to our chronology the following,

-- I mean the days which Daniel indicates from the desolation of Jerusalem, the seven years and seven months of the reign of Vespasian.

For the two years are added to the seventeen months and eighteen days of Otho, and Galba, and Vitellius; and the result is three years and six months, which is "the half of the week," as Daniel the prophet said.

For he said that there were two thousand three hundred days from the time that the abomination of Nero stood in the holy city, till its destruction.

For thus the declaration, which is subjoined, shows: "How long shall be the vision, the sacrifice taken away, the abomination of desolation, which is given, and the power and the holy place shall be trodden under foot?

And he said to him, Till the evening and morning, two thousand three hundred days, and the holy place shall be taken away." …

"These two thousand three hundred days, then, make six years four months, during the half of which Nero held sway, and it was half a week; and for a half, Vespasian with Otho, Galba, and Vitellius reigned.

And on this account Daniel says, "Blessed is he that cometh to the thousand three hundred and thirty-five days."

For up to these days was war, and after them it ceased. And this number is demonstrated from a subsequent chapter, which is as follows:

"And from the time of the change of continuation, and of the giving of the abomination of desolation, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and thirty-five days."
- The Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 2, p. 334

A number of early Christina writers believed that this abomination, that was set up in the Temple, until the time of desolation, or the destruction, was a statue of the emperor.

John' Chrysostom (the golden mouth) 375 A.D. ', in his homely on St. Matthew: 24:15 said, "Or because he who had desolated the city and the temple, placed his statue within the temple." - The Ante-Nicene Fathers

St. Jerome in his comment on Matthew 24:15 said, "Let him that readeth understand," is said to call us to the mystic understanding of the place.

What we read in Daniel is this;

"And in the midst of the week the sacrifice and the oblation shall be taken away, and in the temple shall be the abomination of desolation until the consummation of the time, and consummation shall be given upon the desolate."
[Dan 9:27, Septuagint]

"It may be understood of the statue of Caesar, which Pilate set up in the temple; or of the equestrian statue of Adrian, which stood to the present time in the very Holy of Holies.

For, according to the Old Scripture, an idol is called 'abomination;' "of desolation" is added, because the idol was set up in the desolated and deserted temple." (Matthew 24:15, Quoted in Golden Chain)

Lewis Sperry Chafer, founding president of Dallas Theological Seminary, United States, the most influential Christian Zionist academic institution in the world, claims, 'Israel is an eternal nation, heir to an eternal land, with an eternal kingdom, on which David rules from an eternal throne' Mr Chafer has a real talent for twisting the meaning of the Scriptures.

I grant you that we have what sounds like unconditional promises made to Abraham and King David, but let’s look at the whole picture.

"And the Eternal said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, NORTHWARD, AND SOUTHWARD, AND EASTWARD, AND WESTWARD:

For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever.

"And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered"
- Genesis 13:14-16

Now, notice this second, or "Abrahamic" covenant God made: "And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly . . . as for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a FATHER OF NATIONS!

"Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

"And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

"And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

"And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations" (Genesis 17:1-9).

"If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the LORD your God, then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you; also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring on you until you are destroyed. Then you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not obey the LORD your God." - Deuteronomy 28:58-62

Page 5.

"That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."
- Romans 9:8

"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."
- Galatians 3:16

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."
- Galatians 3: 28,29

It amazes me to see how easily the deceived followers of Darby/Scofield and Tim Lehay set aside the dire warnings found in the Old Covenant, which shows that it was clearly based on our fleshly ‘Jewish’ fathers’ obedience to God and that if they did not live up to their end of Covenant, its blessings in the land would be replaced with curses and the land would be given to others.

Even Paul the Apostle warned that the entire Old Covenant was not an ‘unconditional promise’ and that indeed, it was passing away right then, during the lifetime of the Apostles.

"...For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged."
Rom. 3:3-4

Today, we have the likes of Dr. John Walvoord, who teaches at Southwestern School of Bible in Dallas, who explained the dispensationalist beliefs as follows: "God does not look on all of His children the same way.

He sees us divided into categories, the Jews and the Gentiles. God has one plan, an earthly plan, for the Jews.

And He has a second plan, a heavenly plan, for the born-again Christians.

The other peoples of the world – Muslims, Buddhists, and those of other faiths as well as those Christians not born again – do not concern Him.

As for destroying planet earth, we can do nothing.

Peace, for us, is not in God’s book … ."

In other words the Jews have their hope and the Christians have their hope; God has a separate plan for them and a separate plan for Christian believers.!!

Is it any wonder why and how the 14 million member, Southern Baptist Convention, with it colleges and printing houses, has been taken over by a gang of Zionists/Dispensationalists, who take the plain teachings of Paul and tear them out of the Bible.

Did not Paul write, "Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one Hope of your calling; One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ." - Ephesians 4: 3-7

Over the years, I’ve listened to preachers dispute each other as to the true name of the Church. For some, it is the ‘Church of Christ’, for some it is the ‘Church of God’, for others, the ‘Assembly of God’.

But the simple truth of the matter is, there is one body called ‘Israel’ and if we are not part of real ‘Israel’ then we are not saved. There is one faith, for it is by faith that we are saved.

And when Paul writes: "And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob" (Rom, 11:26) he is not referring to a group of Israelis living during some great ‘tribulation period’ or even a group of 144,000 Jews.

No, what he is talking about is the MANNER of how we all come to God. ‘ We’ being both Jew and Gentile. We all must come to God through faith in Christ Jesus.

The ‘real Israel’ is a ‘Good Olive Tree’.

"For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches.

But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

"Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith.

Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graff them in again.

For if thou were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?"
- Rom. 11: 3-24

Barnabus, the writer of the book of Hebrews, warns, "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it."
- Hebrews 4: 1, 2

We have all heard from the ‘Seventh Day Adventists’ and other sectarians that the practice of worshiping on Sunday was started by the Papacy or by Constantine the Great or

Friends, beware of those who invent ways to insert a ‘gap’ in Daniel’s prophecy because that prophecy is a great cornerstone for the Christian faith. Even Mr. Chilton, wants to place the destruction of Jerusalem within the Seventy Weeks Prophecy of the establishment of the New Covenant, but this arrangement still requires a gap of 30 or more years. It cannot be!.

Vic Lockman, an old friend of mine, and a Praeterist, in his little track/booklet, "Who Stopped the Clock?" amply defends the "Divine Time Measure" against those who would place a "gap" of almost two thousand years in the Seventy Weeks.

Matthew 23:38 also makes the connection to Deuteronomy 28-29, where God tells Israel that they will be rejected due to their rebellion (just as Saul was).

In fact, the specifics of Deut. 28 are astounding when compared to a history of the Roman-Jewish war, as it predicted all of the things that did happen.

If done, one can see that the first (and only) time it happened all together was during the seven year Roman-Jewish War.

The "city and the sanctuary" were destroyed at the 3-˝ year milepost (which is stunning, as 3-˝ years is mentioned in Daniel and Revelation as being the time of the desolation).

The interpreter of the Josephus text, Sir William Whiston, wrote (in 1737) regarding this amazing occurrence as such,

"This is a very remarkable day indeed, the seventeenth of Panemus, [Tammuz,] A.D. 70, when, according to Daniel's prediction, 606 years before, the Romans " In half a week caused the sacrifice and oblation to cease," Dan. ix. 27;

for from the month of February, A.D. 66, about which time Vespasian entered on this war, to this very time, was just three years and a half."

Another amazing fact revealed in Josephus is that the city was taken specifically on September 8, in the second year of the reign of Vespasian, or the year of Christ 70 (Ant. b. vi. c. 10). The temple was burnt August 10, A. D. 70, which was, interestingly enough, the exact same day and month on which it had been burnt by the king of Babylon (Josephus, Ant. b. xx. c. 11. s. 8). Josephus was thoroughly

Page 8.

satisfied that the destruction of Jerusalem was the judgment of God:

"had the Romans made any longer delay in coming against these villains, the city would either have been swallowed up by the ground opening upon them, or been overflowed by water, or else been destroyed by such thunder as the country of Sodom perished by, for it had brought forth a generation of men much more atheistic than were those that suffered such punishments; for by their madness it was that all the people came to be destroyed" (VI,V,6).
On The Millennial Reign of Christ

"One of the antichrists who afflicted the early church was Cerinthus, the leader of a first-century Judaistic cult. Regarded by the Church Fathers as "the Arch-heretic," and identified as one of the "false apostles" who opposed Paul, Cerinthus was a Jew who had joined the Church and began drawing Christians away from the orthodox faith.

He advocated a doctrine of justification by works — in particular, the absolute necessity of observing the ceremonial ordinances of the Old Covenant in order to be saved.

Furthermore, Cerinthus was apparently the first to teach that the Second Coming would usher in a literal reign of Christ in Jerusalem for a thousand years.

Although this was contrary to the apostolic teaching of the Kingdom, Cerinthus claimed that an angel had revealed this doctrine to him."

The Jewish Elders were still haunted by the words of Jesus, when he warned them that they would see him coming back in judgement, riding on the clouds of the sky.

So they took James the Just, brother of the Lord Jesus Christ up to the highest part of the temple and demanded of him to tell them where Jesus was. In particular, they demanded that he publicly recant his position that Christ was about to return.

He replied:

"Why do ye ask me concerning Jesus, the Son of Man ? He himself sitteth in heaven at the right hand of the great Power, and is about to come upon the clouds of heaven."

After he spoke these words, he was martyred, being cast down to his death from the top of the Temple." - Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History - Chapter XXIII

The Roman Historian Tacitus, who certainly was not a Christian, wrote the following, regarding the signs surrounding the destruction of Jerusalem:

"In the sky appeared a vision of armies in conflict, of glittering armour. A

Page 9.

sudden lightening flash from the clouds lit up the Temple.

The doors of the holy place abruptly opened, a superhuman voice was heard to declare that the gods were leaving it, and in the same instant came the rushing tumult of their departure"
- Tacitus, Histories, v. 13
- First Century Roman Historian

Eusebius, the Christian historian, at the beginning of the 4th Century, wrote the following, regarding the events of the desolation:

"Thus were the miserable people won over at this time by the impostors and false prophets; but they did not heed nor give credit to the visions and signs that foretold the approaching desolation.

On the contrary, as if struck by lightning, and as if possessing neither eyes nor understanding, they slighted the proclamations of God.

At one time a star, in form like a sword, stood over the city, and a comet, which lasted for a whole year;

and again before the revolt and before the disturbances that led to the war, when the people were gathered for the feast of unleavened bread, on the eighth of the month Xanthicus, at the ninth hour of the night, so great a light shone about the altar and the temple that it seemed to be bright day; and this continued for half an hour.

This seemed to the unskillful a good sign, but was interpreted by the sacred scribes as portending those events which very soon took place.

And at the same feast a cow, led by the high priest to be sacrificed, brought forth a lamb in the midst of the temple.
And the eastern gate of the inner temple, which was of bronze and very massive, and which at evening was closed with difficulty by twenty men, and rested upon iron-bound beams, and had bars sunk deep in the ground, was seen at the sixth hour of the night to open of itself.

And not many days after the feast, on the twenty-first of the month Artemisium, a certain marvelous vision was seen which passes belief.

The prodigy might seem fabulous were it not related by those who saw it, and were not the calamities which followed deserving of such signs.

For before the setting of the sun chariots and armed troops were seen throughout the whole region in mid-air, wheeling through the clouds and encircling the cities.

And at the feast which is called Pentecost, when the priests entered the temple at night, as was their custom, to perform the services, they said that at first they perceived a movement and a noise, and afterward a voice as of a great multitude, saying, 'Let us go hence.'

Of the question of disrespect, consider the role of the high priest and how that was fulfilled in Christ.

In the Old Covenant period, the high priest went into the Holy of Holies once a year, to present the blood sacrifices for the sins of the people. If the blood was acceptable, then the sins of the people were covered.

If the blood were not acceptable, then the

Page 10.

high priest would die on the spot.

He would never return unto the people waiting outside. In fact, so many priests were dying that it became the practice to tie a rope around their legs before they entered, that upon their death the people could pull them out.

Christ is said to have already entered into the holiest of all, to present His blood sacrifice to God (Heb. 9:24) Clearly, Christ's blood was found acceptable to God.

The question remains, however, "when did He emerge?" If Christ has not yet emerged, then not only is redemption not yet given, but God has not found His blood acceptable.

In short, the terms of fulfillment were not met (Heb. 9:18-22), and the New Covenant is null and void - now.

Athanasius (A.D. 340) wrote the following:

"Now observe; that city, since the coming of our Savior, has had an end, and all the land of the Jews has been laid waste;

so that from the testimony of these things (and we need no further proof, being assured by our own eyes of the fact) there must, of necessity, be an end of the shadow.

For as soon as these things were done, everything was finished, for the altar was broken, and the veil of the temple was rent; and although the city was not yet laid waste, the abomination was ready to sit in the midst of the temple, and the city and those ancient ordinances to receive their final consummation.
(Athanasius, Festal Letters, VIII)

Not only do we have the testimony of the two Roman historians, Josephus and Tacitus, we also have the incredible testimony of John the Beloved disciple to whom Jesus had entrusted the care of his mother and certain other Apostles, about how they they were ‘raptured’ by what we would today, describe as flying saucers and brought to Jerusalem to visit with the Virgin Mary, mother of the Lord Jesus, just before she died.

That was the request she made to her son before he ascended to heaven, the last time.

I recorded the events, which those writers all described separately, into one account and placed it in my book THE COMPLETE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

Thirty years ago, I wrote the original article, that contained the arguments used in my book. to refute the disastrous teaching of Albert Schwitzer (1875-1965).

I wrote and published the original article in THE STANDARD, a magazine with a readership of about 10,000.

Albert Schwitzer had contended that "He died upon the cross with a loud cry, despairing of bringing in the new heaven and the new earth.".

He contended that Jesus was a failure and that therefore, we do not need to pay attention to anything Jesus had to say.

The four main texts and the arguments that I used in that article were ‘borrowed’ by certain writers who have become known today as ‘Preterists’.
(So much for giving credit where credit is due - at least the truth still goes out.) But these folks wanted to do just the opposite of what the Jesuit priest Riberia did. He wanted to assign

Page 11.

the fulfillment of the prophecies of the book of Revelation to some future seven year period, at the end of the world. The ‘Preterists’ attempt to subsume the fulfillment of Revelation’s prophecies to the era in which Jerusalem was destroyed. (70 A.D.)

My readers can read a short version of those events by going to my article in THE SEVENTH TRUMPET, entitled Misconception About the Second Coming and the Wedding Feast It shows the fulfillment of Jesus prophecies about his coming in clouds and glory, during the Apostles lifetime.

Another eye-opening Article entitled : End of An Age Vs. End of the World’( Part of a Series, called, Predictions, Prophecies, and Warnings) appeared about 10 years ago. in THE SEVENTH TRUMPET.

It reveals, in depth, the events that were to transpire at the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple (The End of the Age) and also uses the Canonical Gospels and some of the ‘hidden’ gospels to show events, leading up to the destruction of the world (End of the World).

It inadvertently answers many hard questions which have been raised by the Preterists, the Futurists and the Post Millinnialists.
